Bio

Professor Barry Appleton, FCIArb, LL.M, JD, is co-director and distinguished senior fellow at the Center for International Law at New York Law School and a scholar and fellow at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. He is the managing partner of Appleton & Associates International Lawyers LP in Toronto. His ongoing research examines how emerging technologies challenge traditional trade frameworks and threaten the sovereignty of middle powers. Barry advised Ontario’s Cabinet Committee on North American Free Trade during the original North American Free Trade Agreement negotiations and provided guidance to governments on international trade and economic law issues. His scholarship emphasizes sovereignty, digital governance and global trade law.
