Bio

Andrew Dasselaar is director, foreign investments at the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency Canada, an operational unit of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy based out of the Dutch Consulate General in Toronto. All of his opinions are his own.

Andrew holds an M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of British Columbia and an M.A. in journalism from Leiden University. He was a staff lecturer at several universities and continues to teach online journalism on a sessional basis. Andrew has authored seven books on internet research methods, as well as titles on cybersecurity and online privacy.

Before joining the Dutch Consulate in 2020, Andrew worked as a science, technology and medical journalist for a variety of Dutch and North American outlets, including Holland’s largest news weekly EW (formerly Elsevier Weekblad). He has a strong interest in the societal impacts of new technologies, specifically cell & gene, artificial intelligence and quantum.
